Secure ID Copy

Redact sensitive details, add a purpose-specific watermark, and safely prepare a document copy.

Your files never leave your device.

Protect personal information before sharing copies of identity documents. Hide unnecessary details, add a visible watermark, and download a flattened copy directly from your browser.

Ready. Your document stays in this browser.

You can also paste an image with Ctrl+V (⌘V on a Mac).

How to protect an ID copy

Add a photo or scan of the document. Draw solid boxes over the details the recipient does not need, then enter the purpose, the recipient and the date for the watermark.

Review the exported file at full size, choose JPG, PNG or PDF, and download it. The boxes and the watermark are written into the image pixels, so the copy has no layers that could be switched off.

Why watermark an ID copy?

A watermark that names the purpose, the recipient and the date makes a copy less useful for anything else. If the copy turns up somewhere it should not be, the watermark shows who it was given to and why.

A watermark is a deterrent, not a lock. It cannot prevent copying, cropping or editing.

What information should you redact?

Hide what the recipient does not need. Often that is the document number, a personal identification number, the signature, a machine-readable zone or the photo, but it depends on why the copy is requested.

Some organisations are required to see specific fields, such as your name, date of birth or document number. Check the recipient's requirements first, and do not hide information they need to verify.

What should a watermark say?

Name the purpose, the recipient and the date, for example “Copy for hotel booking verification – Example Hotel – 14 October 2026 only”. Specific text is harder to reuse than a generic “COPY”.

Keep it short enough to read at a glance, and place nothing sensitive in it.

FAQ

Questions about Secure ID Copy

Does this tool upload documents?

No. The document is opened, edited and exported in your browser on your device. It is not sent to our server or to any other service, and nothing about the document, the watermark text or the file name is included in analytics. The page itself loads normally from our website.

Can someone remove the watermark?

The watermark is drawn into the image, so it cannot simply be switched off. Someone with image-editing skills could still paint over or crop parts of it. Treat it as a deterrent that records the intended use, not as protection that cannot be undone.

Is the redacted information recoverable?

Solid boxes replace the pixels in the exported file with an opaque colour, and the export is checked before it is offered: the original pixels under a solid box are not in the file. Pixelation only blurs the area into blocks; short or large text can sometimes be guessed, so use solid boxes for numbers and text. Your original file on your device is not changed.

Does the tool work offline?

Processing happens on your device once the page has loaded, but the tool is not designed to work offline. Load the page with an internet connection; after that, your document is never sent anywhere.

Which files can I use?

Photos and scans in JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC (iPhone) format, up to 50 MB. PDF documents cannot be opened yet. You can export a JPG, a PNG or a single-page PDF.

Is metadata such as location removed?

Yes. The exported copy is a newly encoded image, and before you download it the tool reads the file back to confirm it carries no EXIF, GPS, camera or other metadata from the original. The PDF contains only the image and the minimal structure a PDF needs.
